SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Dave Syverson (R-Cherry Valley) has urged Illinoisans to mark April 1 as the 17th anniversary of Cheap Trick Day in Illinois.

Senator Syverson expressed his admiration for Cheap Trick, stating, "We all have a favorite band that we remember from our youth, and Illinois is fortunate to claim Cheap Trick as one of its own for more than 50 years."

Reflecting on the legislative milestone, Syverson shared, “On April 1, 2007, I had the privilege to sponsor legislation creating Cheap Trick Day to be honored every April 1 in Illinois.”

Since the inception of Cheap Trick Day in Illinois, the rock band has achieved significant milestones, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016, the release of three albums, and continuous global touring.

Highlighting the band's enduring influence, Syverson emphasized, "Cheap Trick has had a huge impact on music for 51 years. We are proud of all they have accomplished, happy they are still entertaining in venues around the world, and pleased they still call Illinois home."
