Mayor Tom McNamara spearheaded the opening of the Community Healing Center at the Boys and Girls Club - Stenstrom Unit. "Children can receive wrap-around navigation services in one location," said Mayor McNamara. The initiative is a collaboration with various community partners to deploy prevention and intervention strategies. The goal is to provide a safe space for kids to access a variety of services.

The Center aims to remove barriers to accessing services for children who have experienced trauma from violence. "Center staff and community partners provide therapeutic services, mentoring, recreation, and service navigation in one facility," explained a representative. The facility operates Monday to Thursday from noon to 8 p.m. and on Fridays from noon to 5 p.m.

Funded by the FY22 Strategies To Support Children Exposed to Violence grant, the project is supported by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
