CHICAGO, IL – The Chicago community is in mourning following the tragic death of 30-year-old Chicago Police Officer Luis M. Huesca, who was fatally shot multiple times in Gage Park. Huesca, a six-year police veteran, was set to celebrate his 31st birthday in two days.

During a press conference earlier this week, CPD Supt. Larry Snelling addressed the incident, stating, "At a press conference earlier this week, CPD Supt. Larry Snelling didn’t confirm it was a carjacking but did confirm the officer’s car was stolen."

Officer Huesca leaves behind his mother and uncle, as well as a grieving community. Details for his funeral have been shared, with visitation scheduled for Sunday from 1 p.m. through 8 p.m. at Blake Lamb Funeral Home in Oak Lawn. The funeral mass will take place on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church on Western Avenue in Chicago.

In a call for solidarity, it was expressed, "Here is the information for Officer Huesca’s funeral. If you can’t attend, I encourage you to thank the next police officer you see in his name."

As the city comes together to honor Officer Huesca's memory, support and prayers are extended to his family, friends, and colleagues. In a final thoughtful gesture, it was shared, "My prayers are with the officer, his family, friends and colleagues."
