Four educators from Belvidere Community Unit School District #100 have been named finalists for the Golden Apple Award, an honor given by the Golden Apple Foundation to recognize excellence in teaching.

The finalists are Leyre Bilbao-Luri from Belvidere South Middle School, John Deery and Sean Donnelly from Belvidere High School, and Andrea Woldman from Belvidere North High School.

“These outstanding educators truly exemplify what it means to learn, innovate and lead every day by supporting students, inspiring colleagues, and strengthening our school community,” according to the district’s announcement.

The next step in the selection process involves classroom observations of each finalist by trained community volunteers. Each teacher will be observed on four occasions between January 20th and February 18th. In March, five teachers will be chosen as recipients of the Golden Apple Award during surprise presentations at their schools.

“Congratulations and good luck to all of our finalists!” said the district.
