There have been 10,194 confirmed coronavirus cases in Boone County as of Jan. 3, with 93 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (439,418 cases) and Cook County (423,343 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 6,299, while Cook County recorded 5,756 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 45,179,593, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 453,766 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,047,833 were male and 1,158,895 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 15,241, while female deaths stood at 12,757.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 17,428 whites, 5,085 African-Americans, 4,119 Hispanics, 909 Asians, and 457 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
