There have been 10,898 confirmed coronavirus cases in Boone County as of Jan. 10, with 94 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (480,546 cases) and Cook County (466,629 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 6,425, while Cook County recorded 5,864 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 46,827,777, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 512,287 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,145,361 were male and 1,277,810 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 15,547, while female deaths stood at 13,021.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 17,803 whites, 5,190 African-Americans, 4,182 Hispanics, 923 Asians, and 470 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
