There have been 11,849 confirmed coronavirus cases in Boone County as of Jan. 18, with 98 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (512,180 cases) and Cook County (503,471 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 6,555, while Cook County recorded 6,049 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 48,765,976, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 577,612 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,248,863 were male and 1,393,564 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 15,990, while female deaths stood at 13,360.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 18,330 whites, 5,344 African-Americans, 4,250 Hispanics, 936 Asians, and 490 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
