The City of Rockford announced on Apr. 27 that it has received a $700,000 grant from the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority to enhance and broaden the work being done at the Family Peace Center.
The funding aims to improve access for survivors of domestic and sexual violence by increasing collaboration among key partners and expanding co-located services at one central location.
According to the city, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office will assign a full-time victim services provider at the Family Peace Center. This staff member will support survivors involved in criminal cases by providing updates on case status, court dates, and legal guidance throughout their journey. The Winnebago County Probation Department will also contribute by placing a part-time probation officer at the center, which is expected to strengthen coordination for those involved with the justice system. Additionally, the Rockford Illinois Police Department plans to introduce a new victim advocate within its Domestic Violence Unit who will assist survivors during police involvement and beyond.
“This investment underscores the continued commitment to a multidisciplinary approach that brings together more than 30 partner agencies to better support survivors and improve outcomes,” said city officials in their statement.
With this expansion, officials say they hope more comprehensive support can be offered under one roof so that individuals affected by domestic or sexual violence have easier access to critical resources.
