The City announced on Apr. 9 that several major public works projects are progressing as construction season gets underway.
These infrastructure improvements aim to address key areas across the city, affecting transportation, parks, and stormwater management. Residents are advised to expect road closures and detours as work continues throughout the spring and summer months.
Work on the 11th Street Project between Harrison Avenue and Broadway Street includes water service replacements, with this section of the road remaining closed until completion. Once finished, crews will shift operations further north for pavement removal and underground utility upgrades. Crosswalk signal upgrades near Collins Aerospace at Harrison Avenue are also in progress; while signals are being replaced, temporary signage is in place to ensure pedestrian safety.
Davis Park remains closed for a major improvement project that is scheduled for completion this summer. The Lower Jefferson Street Storm Sewer Project began March 19 and involves new storm sewer installation, utility work, pavement replacement, and shoreline stabilization. This project is expected to be completed by July 10.
Additionally, efforts continue along the Rock River bank with rock wall removal, shoreline stabilization, and site restoration set to finish this spring. On Newburg Road between South Alpine Road and South Mulford Road, resurfacing started March 30; outside lanes in both directions are currently closed causing potential delays for drivers who are encouraged to seek alternate routes when possible.
The City said it appreciates residents’ patience during these projects which aim to improve local infrastructure.
