FOIA Request to City of Belvidere Regarding Unpaid Parking Violations on October 28, 2024.

In our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Rockford Sun have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Belvidere. The request, sent on October 28, 2024, seeks detailed information about all currently unpaid parking violations in the city.

The specific records requested include a list of all parking violations that remain unpaid. This list should contain the name of the offender, their address, the amount due for each violation, the date when each violation occurred, and the total amount due from each offender.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us at Rockford Sun. It enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

Given our role in disseminating information to the community, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. We await a response from the City of Belvidere regarding this request.
