FOIA Request to McHenry County Sheriff Regarding 2024 Arrest Records on January 7, 2025.

As a part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Rockford Sun have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The request specifically asks for a list of all arrests made from January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2024.

The requested information includes the following fields: Arrestee Name, Arrest Date, Arrestee Gender, Arrestee Race, Arrestee’s Date of Birth, and Crime Committed. This data is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We believe that as media professionals involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver. Access to public records is crucial for us in disseminating information and maintaining transparency within our community.
