FOIA Request to Rockford City Council Regarding Council Members’ Details on October 15, 2024. As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Rockford Sun have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) for specific records related to the city council members.

The requested records include the list of all council members with their names, titles, years of appointment, term lengths (2 or 4 years), and term expiry dates. We have asked for these records preferably in an electronic format for ease of use and analysis.

As a media organization, we are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We will keep you updated as soon as we receive any response from the Rockford City Council regarding this request.
