FOIA Request Sent to Winnebago County Il Clerk & Elections Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Winnebago County Il Clerk & Elections Division by us at Rockford Sun on February 5, 2025. The request was made in line with our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The information requested under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, includes a comprehensive list of all candidates running for the upcoming election. We asked for details such as the candidate’s first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation.

Additionally, we requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to these public records is crucial. It enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities effectively.

Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we also expressed our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional.
