The office of Illinois state Rep. Dave Vella (D-Loves Park) will participate in Summit Academy’s Career and Hiring Expo Dec. 15.

“We need to work together to ensure our students and  young-adults  have opportunities for jobs and resources for their  future success,” the legislator said on Facebook. “Thank you to Brian Weavel and the Summit Academy  administration for hosting and making this event possible.”

Operating through The Boone-Winnebago Regional Office of Education (ROE4), Summit  Academy serves students from 13 school districts in Boone and Winnebago counties who are “in need of alternative  educational opportunities,” it said on Facebook. It has “a caring & dedicated staff focusing on  the social, emotional, and academic needs.”

“For some students, a traditional school may not provide the environment  or support necessary to succeed,” the academy said on its website. “As a result, ROE4 opened Summit Academy  in 2020, a regional alternative education opportunity focused on  students’ social and emotional needs while meeting their academic needs.  Our mission is anchored in positive outcomes with the goal of helping  every student succeed in their home school or graduate and move on to a  post-secondary education or the workforce.”

Other organizations that will be represented at the expo are the Illinois Army National Guard,  North Park Fire Protection District, Village of Machesney Park, Illinois  Northwest Bank, Carlson Boys and Girls Club  and Evolution Digital Marketing Agency, Summit said.

” We still have room available to join some of our AMAZING #community leaders,” the academy said.
