There have been 9,483 confirmed coronavirus cases in Jackson County as of Dec. 30, with 101 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (417,334 cases) and Cook County (404,138 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 6,271, while Cook County recorded 5,715 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 44,469,630, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 433,155 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,008,669 were male and 1,110,661 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 15,152, while female deaths stood at 12,669.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 17,305 whites, 5,057 African-Americans, 4,098 Hispanics, 904 Asians, and 457 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
