There have been 13,053 confirmed coronavirus cases in Jackson County as of Jan. 20, with 104 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (518,504 cases) and Cook County (509,387 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 6,695, while Cook County recorded 6,094 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 49,197,443, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 593,660 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,271,761 were male and 1,419,525 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 16,189, while female deaths stood at 13,519.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 18,536 whites, 5,430 African-Americans, 4,285 Hispanics, 950 Asians, and 507 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
