There have been 14,344 confirmed coronavirus cases in Jackson County as of Jan. 28, with 105 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (541,074 cases) and Cook County (534,272 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 6,877, while Cook County recorded 6,363 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 50,798,837, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 642,037 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,348,716 were male and 1,505,247 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 16,751, while female deaths stood at 13,937.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 19,199 whites, 5,630 African-Americans, 4,367 Hispanics, 977 Asians, and 515 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
