There have been 14,918 confirmed coronavirus cases in Jackson County as of Feb. 7, with 109 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (549,800 cases) and Cook County (544,145 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 7,027, while Cook County recorded 6,560 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 52,167,884, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 663,288 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,382,844 were male and 1,544,307 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 17,185, while female deaths stood at 14,298.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 19,722 whites, 5,799 African-Americans, 4,445 Hispanics, 994 Asians, and 523 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
