The Illinois Manufacturers’ Association has started the 7th annual Makers Madness: The Coolest Thing Made in Illinois competition. This statewide event highlights products made in Illinois and recognizes the workers behind the state’s manufacturing sector.
The contest aims to bring attention to the more than 650,000 people working in manufacturing across Illinois. It also seeks to recognize the innovation, craftsmanship, and economic role of the industry. Products made by Illinois manufacturers range from advanced machinery to lifesaving technology.
Past winners of the competition include Caterpillar’s 797F Mining Truck, Rivian’s R1T all-electric pickup truck produced in Normal, Rosenberg Space Habitat by Ingersoll Machine Tools in Rockford, and Komatsu’s Mining Truck from Peoria. Last year, MTH Pumps’ Aerial Firefighting Helicopter Refill Pump made in Plano received the top honor.
Senator Syverson commented on the significance of this event. “The competition is a great opportunity to recognize the hardworking men and women who keep Illinois manufacturing strong and to showcase the innovation taking place in communities across the state,” he said.
Nominations for this year’s contest are open from February 16 through March 8 at makersmadnessil.com.
Syverson has served as a Republican member of the Illinois State Senate since 1993, representing the 35th Senate District after succeeding Christine J. Johnson.
