Rep. John Cabello welcomed members of the Rock Valley College Student Government Association to the State Capitol on Apr. 17, as part of Student Advocacy Day organized by the Illinois Community College Board. The event brought together student leaders from Illinois’ 45 community colleges to participate in legislative activities and discuss issues affecting their institutions.

Student Advocacy Day aims to give students firsthand experience with the legislative process and an opportunity to voice their perspectives on matters important to community colleges. Rep. Cabello joined Rep. Joe Sosnowski and House Minority Leader Tony McCombie in greeting the visiting students from Rock Valley College.

Cabello said he enjoyed meeting with RVC students and encouraging them to take part in civic activities.

Cabello, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 for the state’s 90th House District, succeeding Tom Demmer according to available information.

The annual gathering highlights ongoing efforts by state lawmakers and educational leaders to promote student engagement within government processes.
