Rockford Public School District 205 Board of Education met Feb. 25.

Order – President Paul Carpenter called the special meeting of the Board of Education to order at 5:30 p.m.

A. Roll Call

Present: President Paul Carpenter, Vice President Nicole Bennett, Secretary June Stanford, Ms. Denise Pearson, Ms. Patricia Chavez (arr. 5:32 p.m.) Ms. Tiana McCall, Ms. Kimberly Haley

Absent: None

Mr. Carpenter thanked Kim Pedersen and Aaron Hill, who produce the Board’s broadcast on Channel 20, and YouTube Live Stream

B. Pledge of Allegiance

C. Recitation of Mission Statement: The mission of Rockford Public Schools is to collaboratively engage all students in an equitable first-class education for a changing world.

2. *Human Resources

A. REA Collective Bargaining Agreement

Motion by Ms. Bennett seconded by Ms. Pearson to approve item 2A, REA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Mr. Carpenter made the following comments. He first thanked the teachers for providing to District students during this process and thanked the REA bargaining team for their fierce advocacy on behalf of their members. Mr. Carpenter also recognized District students and families who have been under increased stress due to this process and especially high school seniors, students involved in athletics and other extracurricular activities. He also recognized the District’s non-certified staff who were preparing to provide for transportation, food and safe spaces for students in the event of non-educational days oftentimes wanting to support their certified coworkers. Mr. Carpenter also thanked Board members for their continued engagement especially early on in this process as members worked through the parameters to best value teachers within the District’s financial realities and for the Boards continued engagement and commitment to this process. Mr. Carpenter also thanked the District’s negotiating team for their time and commitment to negotiating within the parameters provided by the Board. Mr. Carpenter called for the vote.

3. Petitions & Communications (Limited to 30 minutes)

Mr. Carpenter read the guidelines and Board Policy 2.230 Public Participation at Board of Education Meetings and Petitions to the Board.

Ryan Pearson spoke of his unhappiness with the contract and the leadership of the REA.

Motion by Ms. Pearson seconded by Ms. McCall to adjourn.
