State Rep. Joe Sosnowski (R-Rockford) disagrees with Speaker Mike Madigan’s decision to cancel the House’s fall Veto Session due to COVID-19 concerns.

“It is an abdication of duty for the speaker to cancel Veto Session,” Sosnowski said. “We have important work to do— including reining in Gov. (J.B.) Pritzker’s executive orders.”

Sosnowski noted the U.S. Congress and other state legislatures have “figured out how to meet” during the pandemic, .

“The Illinois legislature met safely during the height of the initial outbreak of the pandemic back in May,” Sosnowski said. “There was testing, more than enough space for social distancing, and it was run well. Thousands of front-line workers, big box store workers, teachers, small business employees, grocery store workers, and other employees are reporting to work every day.”

He called Madigan’s decision “an insult to every family struggling to make ends meet and those who show up to work every single day” and said Pritzker should call the legislature back into session if Madigan won’t.
