SwedishAmerican Hospital issued the following announcement on Jan. 3.

She’s changing lives the world over! Dr. Corrine Maund is a new OB-GYN here at Swedes. But before she came to Rockford, this compassionate doctor helped underserved women in Liberia with the Peace Corps.

Dr. Maund knew from a young age that she wanted to be a doctor, and she also has had a lifelong passion for indigenous and impoverished communities. So she blended her interests, majoring in cross-cultural studies in college and spending three months in Zambia learning about international health care. As a Peace Corps doctor, she taught local health care professionals so the community would have sustained medical care. “We were charged with training the next generation of physicians, nurses and midwives,” she said. “Those who stay will pass the knowledge learned onto their colleagues and patients.”

Today, Dr. Maund is now ready to translate what she learned in the field to helping patients right here in Rockford. “I hope to take care of patients from all age groups and backgrounds with humanizing care,” she said. “I want to create a safe space for people to come to a doctor’s office and get the care they need regardless of age, race, socioeconomic status or type of insurance.”
