There have been 57,705 confirmed coronavirus cases in Winnebago County as of Jan. 6, with 675 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (457,849 cases) and Cook County (443,144 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 6,367, while Cook County recorded 5,792 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 45,758,467, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 479,415 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,091,303 were male and 1,212,620 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 15,380, while female deaths stood at 12,880.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 17,596 whites, 5,137 African-Americans, 4,145 Hispanics, 917 Asians, and 465 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
