There have been 71,581 confirmed coronavirus cases in Winnebago County as of Jan. 26, with 740 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (538,285 cases) and Cook County (530,570 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 6,847, while Cook County recorded 6,287 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 50,359,271, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 632,843 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,334,968 were male and 1,489,569 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 16,596, while female deaths stood at 13,823.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 19,007 whites, 5,581 African-Americans, 4,347 Hispanics, 971 Asians, and 513 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
