Rockford residents cheer Madigan's departure as attorney general

Vote 06

Rockford-area residents took Rockford's WREX-TV Facebook page recently to express their delight at the news that Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan will not seek a fifth term.

“Modern-day gangsters that’s what the Madigan family is,” Mel Miley posted.

“I will not miss her attempts to violate constitutional rights by demanding the Illinois State Police give her the names of all FOID card holders,” Kevin Burbach wrote.

“Good riddance,” Pamela Hulton posted.

Many respondents used the opportunity to express their disdain for Lisa Madigan's father, Michael Madigan, the state's speaker of the House.

“One Madigan down. One to go,” Pam Taggart Sherman wrote.

“Smell a rat, she going for daddy Madigan’s job!” Pam Elliot posted.

“I wish she would take her dad too,” Edward Thomas commented.

“Wish it was her dad leaving,” Chris N Dan Layng added.

Lisa Madigan, who has been attorney general for 14 years, has dismissed rumors that she will seek some other political office, including running for Chicago mayor in 2019, when her term expires.
