SWEDISHAMERICAN HOSPITAL: SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center to Celebrate Fifth Anniversary with Patients, Families and Staff

SwedishAmerican Hospital issued the following announcement on Sept. 13.

The SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center, developed in collaboration with UW Health and its nationally recognized University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center, is pleased to announce the celebration of its fifth anniversary. Throughout the week of October 1, the center will celebrate its anniversary with a variety of festive activities and celebrations for patients, their families and staff.

On Tuesday, October 2 the center will host a fifth birthday celebration from 11:30 AM – 1 PM. Patients, families and staff will be treated to cake and have the opportunity to listen to the soothing sounds of an acoustic guitar, visit with SwedishAmerican physicians and staff members and get a free family portrait taken. RSVP is required and family portrait spots are limited.

On Thursday, October 4 from 4:30 – 6 PM, patients and their families can have a photo taken in the Regional Cancer Center healing gardens. RSVP is required and family portrait spots are limited. At 6:30 PM a sunset luminary walk will take place. Each luminary will memorialize one person, loved, missed or remembered.

In addition, the following events will take place all week:

• Listen to live music in the lobby all week

• Create a sugar, salt and essential oil kit

• Decorate a luminary to celebrate or honor a loved one

• Take home a free gift and enter to win one of several raffle baskets

“We look forward to celebrating our fifth anniversary with our patients, their families and our physicians and staff members,” says SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center Director Natalie Wilson. “The Regional Cancer Center is more than just a beautiful building, it’s a place where patients and families feel welcomed during their cancer journey, a place that provides a soothing environment both inside and out and a place where patients receive advanced treatments by the region’s top specialists.”

The Regional Cancer Center is continuing to provide greater and more convenient local access to medical specialties, research and physicians from the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center. More than 85 doctors from UW Health are on SwedishAmerican’s medical staff, representing more than 19 different specialties. Specifically, the hospital hosts a number of UW surgical oncologists who specialize in areas such as breast, gynecology, hepatobiliary and head and neck at the Regional Cancer Center and various other clinics throughout the SwedishAmerican system weekly.

So far in calendar year 2018, the Regional Cancer Center has diagnosed 1,170 new oncologist and hematology patients and has recorded approximately 51,459 total visits including 12,000 chemotherapy treatments; 12,656 lab visits; 1,201 PET/CT scans; 6,728 radiation oncology treatments; 88 bone marrow biopsies and 317 radiology procedures.
