SwedishAmerican Hospital issued the following announcement on Sept. 18.
On Thursday, September 20, at 2:00pm, Aramark and SwedishAmerican, a division of UW Health, will gather employees together at SwedishAmerican’s main campus, 1401 E. State Street, to fill 200 backpacks with school supplies and then deliver them to Remedies Domestic Violence shelter. This is the third year Aramark has partnered with SwedishAmerican to provide backpacks to children staying at Remedies.
Kathleen O’Connell, an Aramark employee and the contracted Food Service Director at SwedishAmerican is in charge of the effort. “Frequently children arrive at the shelter without the basic school supplies they need. Our team wants to make a difference in helping families and children who live at the shelter and may not have the resources they need to excel at school,” says O’Connell.
A crew of Aramark volunteers and SwedishAmerican employees will stuff backpacks with supplies, courtesy of a donation from the SwedishAmerican Foundation and a grant of $2,000 from Aramark. Basic hygiene products, vouchers and bus passes are also part of the donation.
