SwedishAmerican Hospital issued the following announcement on Dec. 8.
He took his medical expertise to the third world! As a physician assistant in our emergency department, Zachary Hathway helps patients with injuries and illnesses every day. But he wanted to do more. So earlier this year, Zachary joined Friends of the Children on a medical mission trip and took his clinical skills to Haiti.
In Haiti, Zachary saw a range of acute illnesses, performed procedures to treat infections, and treated a number of traumatic injuries. For him, this was a first experience on a medical mission trip but one Zachary’s been working toward his entire career. “I’ve always been interested in community and global medicine, which is one of the reasons I completed a Masters in Public Health alongside my Physician Assistant degree,” he said. So providing medical care to areas such as Haiti is exactly why Zachary entered health care in the first place. “It’s an extension of the base idea of what all of us in medicine are here for,” he said. “To give care to the people who need it.”
Thanks, Zachary, for your caring heart in serving those here and abroad!
