CITY OF LOVES PARK: City of Loves Park Receives Grant Award to Help Homeowners Make Critical Repairs

Grant

City of Loves Park issued the following announcement on May 14.

The City of Loves Park received a grant of $269,770 from the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) on May 2nd, 2019 to assist income-eligible homeowners with critical home repairs. Awarded through the state’s Single Family Rehabilitation Program, the funding will help households with repairs that remove health and safety hazards, correct code violations, and replace costly maintenance items. Eligible homeowners may receive up to $45,000 in forgivable assistance to bring their property up to local codes. Funded through the Illinois Affordable Housing Trust Fund, the Single Family Rehabilitation Program provides grants to units of local government and community-based organizations, which work to reserve and oversee forgivable loans for households within their community. Repairs including roofing, flooring, electrical, plumbing, siding, and other work to remove health and safety issues in the property are covered under the program. Homeowners who elect to address only the roof of their home may be eligible for up to $16,500 if no other health or safety issues are present. To qualify, a household cannot earn more than 80 percent of the area’s median income. “The Single Family Rehabilitation Program has helped hundreds of households who did not have the means to make essential repairs to their homes,” said IHDA Executive Director Audra Hamernik. “This program is a great resource that helps local governments and our non-profit partners to maintain affordability, prevent foreclosures, and improve the quality of single-family housing stock throughout the state.” If you are a homeowner in the City of Loves Park and interested in applying for rehabilitation funds, pre-applications are available at City Hall 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday. The pre-application deadline is June 4th, 2019.For additional questions contact Nathan Bruck at 815-654-5033 or email: nathanbruck@loves-park.il.us.
