ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 89: Chesney-backed Bill to Expand Coverage of Mammogram Screenings Signed by Governor

01

Illinois State House District 89 issued the following announcement on Aug. 26.

Chesney-backed Bill to Expand Coverage of Mammogram Screenings Signed by Governor

State Representative Andrew Chesney lauded legislation signed by the Governor on Monday to expand coverage of mammograms in Illinois.

“Mammograms quite simply save lives,” said Chesney. “I was honored to co-sponsor this measure in the Illinois House and am so pleased the Governor is signing it into law. I was proud to join the Susan G. Komen Foundation and other advocates in pushing for these changes to allow more women to get mammograms as part of their preventative healthcare plans.”

The changes within the legislation require additional private insurance coverage of mammograms, removes deductibles, coinsurance, copayments and other cost-sharing, and allows public aid coverage of additional mammogram services. Frequently, a follow-up mammogram is required to monitor a condition or potential condition, and this legislation helps address these issues with rising deductibles on health plans.

The legislation, Senate Bill 162, passed the Illinois House and Illinois Senate unanimously and was signed into law by Governor JB Pritzker on Monday in DeKalb.
