The tribute marked the 18th anniversary of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. The event is held annually by tribute organizer Brenda Brugger, whose son was in Marine boot camp on 9/11. Her daughter soon joined the National Guard.
Several other lawmakers and police units were in attendance to reflect on the impact of the 18th anniversary. Brugger shared a story of her relief as a parent when her two children returned home after their deployment to Iraq.
