ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 90: Rep. Tom Demmer Serves as “Principal for a Day” at Oregon Elementary School

90

Illinois State House District 90 issued the following announcement on Sept. 20.

Rep. Tom Demmer Serves as “Principal for a Day” at Oregon Elementary School

This week State Representative Tom Demmer stepped into the shoes of an elementary school principal and experienced a day in the life of a top school administrator in Oregon Community Unit School District 220.

Demmer spent the morning of September 19 at Oregon Elementary School, where he talked with four classes of second and third grade students, and also spoke with teachers and support staff. “I look forward participating in the Principal for a Day program every year, as it provides me with a unique glimpse into the lives that principals and teachers live daily at the schools in the 90th District,” said Demmer. “In addition to time spent talking with teachers and support staff, I visited classrooms, read to students, and talked with them about my job as a State Representative.”

The Principal for a Day program, in place since 2004, is a statewide initiative sponsored by the Illinois Principal’s Association to provide state and federal elected officials with an opportunity to observe, interact, and serve as an administrator in schools within their legislative districts.

This marks the fourth year that Demmer has participated in the Principal for a Day program.
