Mercy Rockford Health System issued the following announcement on Oct. 7.
Mercyhealth is pleased to welcome Dr. Emiko Jamie Hayakawa to the surgery staff of Surgical Associates of Northern Illinois at Mercyhealth–Rockton, 2350 N. Rockton Ave., Rockford.
Dr. Hayakawa offers engaging and comprehensive care for her patients. “Colorectal surgery is a team effort based on open and honest communication. It is my goal to engage each patient and make them an active participant in their care. I am a big proponent of the enhanced recovery protocols, which helps patients undergo a faster recovery. Components include nutrition, activity and a variety of pain regimens.”
Dr. Hayakawa earned her medical degree at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, North Chicago, IL. She then served a General Surgery residency at Spectrum Health, Grand Rapids, MI. Dr. Hayakawa also completed a Colorectal Surgery fellowship at Grant Ohiohealth, Columbus, OH. Her special interests include colon and rectal cancers, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, anorectal diseases, and endoscopy and minimally invasive surgery.
