Winnebago County issued the following announcement on July 1.
Local crossroad bridge repair work on Rote Road on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) in Winnebago County is rescheduled to begin in July and continue through August.
Electronic message signs and construction sinage will be put in place in advance to alert drivers to construction work zones, closures and detours throughout the repairs. All work is weather dependent.
"The Illinois Tollway prioritizes the safety of both drivers and workers when planning for roadway maintenance and repairs," said Illinois Tollway Executive Director Jose Alvarez. "While roadwork detours are inconvenient for drivers, the closures are necessary to provide a safe work zone for construction workers and completion of the repair work."
Beginning the week of July 6, and continuing through August, the Rote Road Bridge carrying traffic over I-90 will be closed for construction, and a posted detour will be put in place routing Rote Road traffic via Lyford Road, Spring Creek Road and Bell School Road. Up to 3,900 vehicles use the Rote Road Bridge daily.
The full closure of the Rote Road Bridge is necessary because the local crossroad bridge over I-90 is too narrow to accomodate traffic while safely completing the work.
