Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met June 1.

Chairman Fridly called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:30 pm. Members present: Mayor Adams, Dan Barber, Kevin Bunge, Scott Fridly, Cory Magnus, Jodi May and Don Self
Motion by Mr. Magnus, second by Ms. May, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of May 19, 2020. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.
PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
VILLAGE ENGINEER – KEVIN BUNGE
Village Engineer Kevin Bunge gave his report. A copy of his report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office.
MAYOR – DALE ADAMS
Mayor Adams stated that he spoke with Carlos Molina from Winnebago County and that he would like to know by Friday (June 5th) what infrastructure project the Village is going to use the $100,000 for. The Committee looked at taking some of the projects from the five-year plan. Ms. May suggested doing overlay projects throughout the Village. The Committee decided to use the infrastructure funds for overlaying Aldrin Road. Mr. Bunge stated that he would contact Mr. Molina to let him know this is what the Village intends to use the funds for. Mr. Magnus advised the Committee that he would get a consensus for this at the Village Board meeting on June 2, 2020.
WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – SCOTT FRIDLY
Mr. Fridly discussed the changes to the draft budget. Mr. Fridly advised the Committee that the police department isn’t going to fill the vacant sergeant position and that this was discussed in the Administration Committee meeting. Ms. May added that Mr. Peterson was inquiring if the Public Works Department is able to make any further cuts. Mr. Fridly stated that the Public Works Department has already made a lot of cuts. Mr. Barber commented that there isn’t much extra in the budget right now if something breaks. Mr. Magnus questioned if all of the current employee/staff are needed and suggested that the Village may want to take a look at job descriptions. Mr. Self discussed the changes to the budget if the pool doesn’t open. Ms. May inquired about if the pool could open in Phase 4 and they could have 50 people at the pool. Mr. Self advised that he could reduce some staff and the hours at the pool if it opened. Mr. Self stated that he would charge $5/person across the board for entry into the pool and that he would only need one week to get the pool open and running. Ms. May commented that she feels that opening the pool would send a positive message to the community. Mr. Fridly stated that he thinks the Village should cut their losses and keep the pool closed for the season.
STREETS AND WALKS – CORY MAGNUS
Mr. Magnus stated that the approval for purchasing garbage cans for the downtown area are up for approval at the Village Board meeting on June 2, 2020. Mr. Magnus said that the total cost would be approximately $15,300. The Committee was okay with this.
BUILDINGS AND PARKS – JODI MAY
Ms. May stated that they have covered the swimming pool closure in the Administration Committee meeting and this Committee meeting as well.
PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER
Mr. Barber provided the Committee with a copy of the Public Works monthly report.
PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF None.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS ALLOWED BY LAW None.
