State Sen. Dave Syverson (R-Rockford) is hopeful he could help Gov. J.B. Pritzker realize how vital enhancing the job climate is in resolving the state’s financial crisis.

“This budget really takes us in the wrong direction,” Syverson said. “I look forward to working with the governor, hopefully getting him to understand the importance of improving our jobs climate so we can grow out of the problems that we’re facing.”

He is skeptical about how businesses can provide more employment opportunities once tax relief programs have been removed and tax hikes are imposed. He says COVID-19 restrictions such as business shutdowns have made a serious impact on employers, making him more apprehensive of the governor’s proposed budget.

“I’m deeply concerned about this budget,” Syverson said. “At a time when Illinois is leading the nation in jobs lost and leaving the state. This budget goes after job creators and takes away many incentives needed to bring in more jobs. It also goes after the road and bridge program again, costing thousands of direct and indirect jobs. As a state we can grow out of the economic problems we’re having, we just can’t tax our way out of that.”
