Republican state Rep. Joe Sosnowski is struggling to understand what he sees as Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s maddening inconsistency when it comes to her handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Outdoor, with 1/5 of the stadium full and nobody near you in the stands,” Sosnowski posted to Twitter after Lightfoot announced both the Cubs and White Sox will be able to have fans in the stadium at 20% capacity for their season openers.
“Which science book?” Sosnowski added.
Sosnowski has long been a critic of the state’s handling of the crisis, at one point arguing data showed the overwhelming majority of outbreaks were occurring in long-care facilities and there was little need to keep the rest of the state under restrictions.
“Restaurants, retailers and houses of worship are not the culprits of community spread of COVID-19 and we need to stop treating them as such. IDPH’s own data demonstrates that most outbreaks of COVID-19 in Illinois are attributable to long-term care and other congregate living facilities,” he stated. “With this undisputed fact in mind, destroying people’s livelihoods and forcing people out of work with extreme statewide restrictions is clearly not based on data and science.”
