Q2 Recap: 2 parolees from Jackson County convicted of crimes involving weapons set for release

There were two offenders convicted of crimes involving weapons living in Jackson County released on parole during the second quarter of 2021, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Rockford Sun.

The data shows both of the released offenders among the parolees were men. The median age of the parolees sentenced for crimes involving weapons was 35. The younger parolee was a 34-year-old man sentenced in 2020, and the oldest was a 35-year-old man sentenced in 2020.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was James L. Smith. He was convicted in 2020 when he was 34 years old. He is now 35.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.

The following table shows how many offenders convicted of crimes involving weapons were paroled during the second quarter of 2021 in each Illinois county.
