Nolan Beard Scores Game-Winner for Men's Soccer

 The Rockford University men's soccer team (1-0-3) earned their first win of the 2022 season in a 1-0 win against Augustana College (0-2-1). The Regents came into this game with revenge on their minds, having lost their first ever meeting with the Vikings last season 3-0. While they lost the previous meeting, Rockford came out and was able to outshoot Augustana by a 16-10 margin, including 10-3 in shots on goal. It was another first half without a goal for the Regents before a free kick cross by Lorenzo Amador reached Nolan Beard, who put it away in the 52nd minute to give the Regents their much-deserved lead. Rockford held on for the remainder of the game, playing tough defense and keeping the ball moving, securing win number one of the campaign 1-0.

REGENT RECAP

  • Rockford's best opportunity in the first half was in the 34th minute, when Matt Polovin hit one shot off the crossbar, then a second that was saved, and then it rolled to Kacper Stepaniak who hit it just wide of the net.
  • The Regents came out of the half and quickly went on the attack. The golden moment came in the 52nd minute with a free kick crossed into the box was met by Nolan Beard on the left side of the net, putting it past the goalkeeper for the opening goal.
  • Augustana took a few chances but was unable to break the shutout, and Rockford were the victors at the final whistle.
