Part-Time Nurse
POSTION SUMMARY: Orders, dispenses and maintains inventory of Methadone and Suboxone. Provides professional nursing care for Agency clientele that follows established standards and practices specific to outpatient substance abuse treatment. This position will report one day a week, every other Saturday, and cover vacations and/or main nurse absences (This will be on call). _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sets up, administers, and accounts for Methadone or Suboxone skillfully and correctly, as
- ordered by the physician.
- Establishes and sustains medical procedures which provide the best possible patient care,
- and medication control compatible with all relevant licensure and accreditation standards.
- Implements accurately and promptly physician’s orders.
- Keeps physician informed of patients’ needs and problems.
- Serves as liaison between physician and other staff members regarding the medical
- treatment of patients.
- Assists the physician with physical examinations, when necessary, providing the essential
- information to the physician.
- Coordinates the Agency’s infection control program.
- Identifies and responds to high-risk events/behaviors that could jeopardize clients and/or
- staff.
- Assures completion of all necessary documentation related to client health care issues, in a
- timely manner.
- Maintains complete and accurate medical record-keeping procedures, which are in
- accordance with all relevant licensure and accreditation standards.
- Obtains and maintains needed supplies and equipment.
- Acts as patient advocate for all medical needs.
- Performs regular facility checks to assure Agency security.
- Monitors the environment of care and agency compliance with policies and procedures, as
- assigned.
- Generates report documentation to funding sources as it applies.
- Monitors patient involvement in treatment activities.
- Participates in performance improvement efforts through Quality Improvement
- committee, as needed.
- Ability to perform Quality Control standards.
- Performs all job functions consistent with confidentiality regulations, ethical practices and
- agency policies and mission.
- Performs all job functions in a professional manner.
- Presents and maintains a professional image in dress, behavior, and work habits.
- Promotes a positive and pleasant attitude conducive to the workplace that enhances and
- furthers the Mission, Vision and Values Statement.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to provide patient care
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations with a clear understanding of Agency Emergency Preparedness Plan
- Ability to learn and implement Agency-specific practices and procedures
- Ability to prepare and present patient educational opportunities
- Observes confidentiality rules and respects rights of patients
- Demonstrates competency in evaluating opioid withdrawal signs and symptoms
- Demonstrates competency in verbalizing understanding of chemical dependency as a primary illness and provide sincere interest in working with this patient population
- Demonstrates competency in recognizing secondary illnesses that can develop from chemical dependency and making appropriate referrals for that medical care
- Demonstrates competency in providing appropriate care and services to both adolescents and adults (No adolescents in opioid treatment).
- Demonstrates competency in de-escalation process for volatile patients and visitors
- Demonstrates competency in practicing therapeutic counseling methods, principals and practices
- Basic computer skills.
- Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
- Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public
EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
EXPERIENCE: One year of professional nursing experience
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: Active/current Illinois RN or LPN license. CPR certification.
