Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met Aug. 14.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Chairwoman May called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:30 pm. Members present: Mayor Peterson, Dan Barber, Dan Baumgartner, Jodi May and Don Self Staff present: Kevin Bunge

Absent: Mrs. Honkamp

Motion by Mr. Baumgartner, second by Ms. May, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of July 31, 2023. All ayes. Motion approved 2-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

VILLAGE ENGINEER – KEVIN BUNGE

Village Engineer Kevin Bunge gave his report. A copy of the engineering status report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office. Mr. Bunge stated that the bid opening for Franklin/Prairie Streets will be held on Wednesday, August 30th at 10:00 am.

MAYOR – JOHN PETERSON

Mayor Peterson stated that he met with a developer who is interested in acquiring the Goldie Floberg property and making it into a senior living facility.

Mayor Peterson advised the Committee that he, along with Mr. Danielson, Ms. Diduch and Mr. Barber met with Hendricks Development in reference to the Sonoco property and the property across from the high school.

Mayor Peterson said that there has been a lot of work going on with IT stuff and that we are trying to work through some of the issues.

Mayor Peterson stated that there are two companies that the Village is looking into for car charging stations. Mayor Peterson said that he would like to put a car charging station in the parking lot to the west of The Mix on Hawick Street.

WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – JODI MAY

None.

STREETS AND WALKS – DAN BAUMGARTNER

Mr. Baumgartner stated that the purchase requisition for S & J Sealcoating to sealcoat Village Hall, Hawick, Tacchi USA, FIBS and Green Street lots in the amount of $12,343 is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on August 15, 2023. The Committee was okay with this.

BUILDINGS AND PARKS – ARIANNE HONKAMP

Motion by Mr. Baumgartner to approve the purchase requisition for S & J Sealcoating to sealcoat the walking path in Settlers Park to Main Street in the amount of $2,300, second by Ms. May. Roll call. All ayes. Motion approved 2-0.

Mr. Baumgartner stated that Mr. Barber provided a quote for liability insurance on the Goldie Floberg building. Mr. Baumgartner said to insure the building at $1.4M would cost approximately $1,400. Mr. Barber said that if the Village sold the building then the refund amount should be prorated back to the Village.

Mr. Baumgartner advised the Committee that the special events application for the Rockton Lion’s Club “Last Roar Car Show” to be held on Sunday, October 1st from 8 am – 3 pm in Settlers Park is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on August 15, 2023. The Committee was okay with this.

PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER

Mr. Barber stated the Public Works Department is currently working on repairing a water service. Mr. Barber added that he is currently working with Ms. Diduch in reference to a storage building and that he is working with Mr. Self on picking up stuff in the downtown area. Mr. Barber added that the new bike racks are coming soon.

Mr. Barber stated that the Rockon Fire Protection District is conducting a fire inspection on Wednesday and will be looking at the Village property.

PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF

Mr. Self stated that his part-time help will be leaving in two weeks and that he is trying to find a replacement for him.

Mr. Self said that the YMCA summer camp ends on Tuesday and that the pool closed on Saturday. Mr. Self said that he will be doing some work at the pool since it’s closed, but there may be a possibility of holding adult swim this week. Mr. Self stated that the doggy swim is this coming Saturday from 1-4 pm.

Mr. Self advised the Committee that there was some vandalism in the downtown area last night, but they got everything cleaned up. Mr. Self said that the police department identified the suspects and arrested them.

Mr. Self added that the engine blew on his golf utility cart and that it will cost approximately $1,200 to repair it.
