State Senator Dave Syverson (R-Cherry Valley) expressed his gratitude to the community, business, labor, and government for their collaboration in reopening the Belvidere Assembly Plant. After months of hard work, a game-changing agreement has been reached to not only reopen the plant but also expand its operations. Stellantis, the parent company, is expected to invest nearly $5 billion in the facility, which has been closed for over eight months.

Syverson acknowledged the efforts of various stakeholders in making this agreement possible. He highlighted the crucial role played by the UAW during recent strike negotiations with Stellantis, which ultimately sealed the deal. The Belvidere Assembly Plant has been a significant economic driver for Boone County and the surrounding region for the past 60 years.

The details of the agreement include the conversion of the 5.4 million-square-foot facility into a parts distribution center. Additionally, a new or retooled Belvidere Assembly Plant will be established, along with a new battery production facility. This expansion is expected to bring long-term benefits to the county and its residents.

Senator Syverson, who has been representing Boone County for the past three decades, expressed his excitement about the plant's continued production of high-quality vehicles. He credited the efforts of past governors and local leaders in securing economic packages that have helped keep the plant operational. With this new investment, he is confident that the Belvidere Assembly Plant will continue to thrive.

In expressing his gratitude, Syverson extended his appreciation to Growth Dimensions, area legislators, the Governor, and especially the UAW. He recognized their relentless hard work in getting this project back on track.

The reopening of the Belvidere Assembly Plant is a significant development for the community and the state as a whole. It not only ensures the preservation of jobs but also brings new opportunities for growth and economic prosperity. With Stellantis' substantial investment, the plant is poised to contribute to the production of high-quality vehicles for many years to come.
