Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met Jan. 3.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Chairwoman May called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 5:30 pm. Members present: Mayor Peterson, Dan Barber, Dan Baumgartner, Arianne Honkamp, Jodi May and Don Self

Staff present: Adam Bunge

Motion by Mr. Baumgartner, second by Mrs. Honkamp, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of December 18, 2023. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

VILLAGE ENGINEER – KEVIN BUNGE

Village Engineer Adam Bunge gave his report. A copy of the engineering status report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office.

Mr. Bunge stated that he has been answering questions from residents in reference to the Safe Route to School grant (bike path from Aspland to Old Meadow along Rockton Road) and that this project will go out to bid in June. Mr. Barber said that he would like to set up a meeting so that everyone can come in at the same time and have their questions answered in regards to the bike path.

MAYOR – JOHN PETERSON

Mayor Peterson stated that the trustees received information from Mr. Barber about the lead and copper services in the Village. Mayor Peterson said that he would like everyone to look it over and give any input to Mr. Barber about this since this is information that will be going on the Village website and social media. Mayor Peterson added that the Village is going to do a press release as well.

Mayor Peterson said that Ms. Diduch will be emailing out information about Airbnb’s and that he would like everyone to review this as well. Mayor Peterson commented that he would like the Village to pass an ordinance that addresses Airbnb’s soon since he has been getting questions about this.

Mayor Peterson stated that the Village is holding off on the electric car charging station for now because there should be some grant money coming out soon.

Mayor Peterson advised the Committee that he and Mr. Barber are going to meet with Rock River Disposal to discuss extending the garbage agreement for the Village before it expires in two years.

WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – JODI MAY

Motion by Ms. May to approve the purchase requisition for Ferguson Waterworks for a valve for the outside clarifier pit in the amount of $3,199.05, second by Mr. Baumgartner. Roll call. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.

Motion by Ms. May to approve the purchase requisition for Ferguson Waterworks for a main valve at Well #7 in the amount of $3,089.08, second by Mr. Baumgartner. Roll call. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.

STREETS AND WALKS – DAN BAUMGARTNER

None.

BUILDINGS AND PARKS – ARIANNE HONKAMP

Mrs. Honkamp stated that the purchase requisition for Reinders, Inc. for a 2024 Toro MDX utility cart in the amount of $16,500.92 (4-year lease agreement - $4,623.89 estimated payment) is up for approval at the Village Board meeting later in the evening. The Committee was okay with this.

PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER

Mr. Barber stated that the Public Works Department continues to work on mapping for the lead and copper services in the Village. Mr. Barber said that they have an agreement with a lab in Rockford in case residents would like to have their water tested. Mr. Barber advised the test will cost $20 and that it will be added to the resident’s next water bill. Mr. Barber said that he is hoping that the inspections will be done by next week.

Mr. Barber added that he is also testing the snow maker for Yeti Fest to make sure that its working properly.

PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF

Mr. Self stated that 99% of the Christmas decorations have been taken down and put away.

Mr. Self said that he hopes to have the ice rink liners in by the end of the week or the beginning of next week.

Mr. Self commented that he is currently doing some cleanup along the race and that he is building picnic tables and working on vehicle maintenance during bad wether.

Mr. Self said that he is meeting with the Rockford Park District about putting some flag football teams in their league, but that the Village is still looking at hosting some tournaments.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS ALLOWED BY LAW

Ms. May advised the Committee that the Village has been looking into continuing the road tax and putting this on the ballot, but which ballot hasn’t been determined yet. Ms. May added that they are currently working on the 5-year plan for road projects in the Village as well.

Motion by Mrs. Honkamp, second by Mr. Baumgartner to adjourn at 5:54 pm.
