ROCKFORD, IL – A tragic incident occurred in the city of Rockford this Sunday afternoon, resulting in the death of a K9 officer from the Rockford Police Department. The officer was shot and killed while responding to a domestic situation that escalated on Jacqueline Drive and 11th street. The suspect involved in the incident opened fire on the Rockford Police, striking the K9 officer. Unfortunately, the K9 officer did not survive the encounter. The suspect sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Expressing his deep sorrow, State Representative Cabello said, "I’m beyond saddened to hear about the brave K9 officer from Rockford PD who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. This incident is yet another reminder of the dangers our law enforcement officers and their K9 partners face daily to keep our community safe.
