State Senator Dave Syverson | Illinois General Assembly
Governor JB Pritzker of Illinois announced a proposal for a billion-dollar tax increase to address the escalating costs associated with programs aimed at providing free healthcare and housing to non-citizens in the state. Senator Dave Syverson (R-Cherry Valley) criticized the Governor's plan, highlighting the burden it would place on working families.
According to Senator Syverson, Governor Pritzker has significantly increased spending on programs for non-citizens, with the costs for healthcare, housing, education, social services, and crime-related expenses now totaling over $2 billion. Senator Syverson expressed concern over the impact of the proposed tax increases on Illinois taxpayers, particularly working families already facing financial challenges.
Senator Syverson emphasized the need to oppose the tax hikes, stating, "These dollars belong to the taxpayers who earned it and can spend it more wisely than this Administration can." He urged the public to join him in rejecting the Governor's proposed tax increase by signing a petition available on his website.
The Governor's budget proposal, if approved, would mark a significant increase in state spending, setting a new record for the largest budget in Illinois history at $53 billion. Senator Syverson criticized the Governor's budget priorities, questioning the wisdom of burdening taxpayers with additional taxes to fund programs for non-citizens.
As the debate over the proposed tax increases continues, Senator Syverson remains steadfast in his opposition, calling for support from the public to push back against what he views as misplaced budget allocations.
