Winnebago County Board Public Works Committee met March 18.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Chairwoman May called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:30 pm. Members present: Mayor Peterson, Dan Barber, Dan Baumgartner, Arianne Honkamp, Jodi May and Don Self

Staff present: Sally Bennett, Adam Bunge, Kevin Bunge and Atty. Szeto

Motion by Mr. Baumgartner, second by Mrs. Honkamp, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of March 4, 2024. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

VILLAGE ENGINEER – KEVIN BUNGE

Village Engineer Adam Bunge gave his report. A copy of the engineering status report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office.

MAYOR – JOHN PETERSON

None.

WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – JODI MAY

None.

STREETS AND WALKS – DAN BAUMGARTNER

None.

BUILDINGS AND PARKS – ARIANNE HONKAMP

None.

PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER

Mr. Barber updated the Committee in reference to the lead and copper water line replacements. Mr. Barber stated that the Public Works Department completed the inventory and that there are 248 homes that were submitted to C.E.S. for work. Mr. Barber said that 159 homes would for sure need to have service lines replaced and that the other 87 homes would only be on the Village side for replacement. Mr. Barber commented that this would cost the Village approximately $336,000/year for nine years.

Mr. Barber added that he spoke with Shawn from Winnebago County in regards to the $100,000 Sosnowski grant and that there is certain criteria that needs to be met in order to receive the funds. Mr. Barber said that he was going to meet with C.E.S. to discuss this further.

PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF

Mr. Self stated that he submitted the invoice for $20,000 for the dock installation at the boat ramp and that the remainder of the bill will be paid in the next budget year. Mr. Self said that the Village is looking at an April installation date for the dock.

Mr. Self stated that he is meeting with the Rockford Park District to discuss a flag football team.

Motion by Mrs. Honkamp, second by Mr. Baumgartner to adjourn at 6:38 pm.
