The City of Rockford Health and Human Services has announced the reopening of cooling centers for residents in Boone and Winnebago Counties. These centers aim to provide relief during periods of extreme heat or when an Excessive Heat Advisory or Warning is issued by the National Weather Service.
In case of a severe weather crisis, additional sites may be opened as necessary. Residents are encouraged to check on senior relatives, friends, neighbors, and others whose health may be affected by high temperatures. Churches and other organized groups are also urged to monitor the well-being of their members.
The following locations will serve as cooling centers:
**Winnebago County Sites:**
- The Carpenter’s Place
- 1149 Railroad Ave., Rockford, IL
- Mon-Fri: 8:15 am – 3:00 pm
- Rockford Rescue Mission
- 715 W. State St., Rockford, IL
- Daily: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Open 24/7 for overnight shelter needs
- City of Rockford Health & Human Services Department
- 612 N. Church St., Rockford, IL
- Mon-Fri: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
- Brooke Road United Methodist Church
- 1404 Brooke Road, Rockford, IL
- Mon-Thurs: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
- Loves Park City Hall (gymnasium)

Mon-Fri: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
**Boone County Sites:**
- Belvidere Public Safety Building
