Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met May 20.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
Chairwoman May called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:30 pm. Members present: Mayor Peterson, Dan Barber, Dan Baumgartner, Arianne Honkamp and Jodi May Staff present: Sally Bennett, Adam Bunge and Tricia Diduch
Absent: Don Self
Motion by Mrs. Honkamp, second by Mr. Baumgartner, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of May 6, 2024. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.
PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
VILLAGE ENGINEER – KEVIN BUNGE
Village Engineer Adam Bunge gave his report. A copy of the engineering status report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office. Mr. Bunge stated that he will check with Kevin Bunge about the status of the boat dock grant for the Village.
MAYOR – JOHN PETERSON
Mayor Peterson stated that the Memorial Day Parade is Monday and that he invited the Roscoe VFW to walk in our parade if the Village of Roscoe doesn’t have one.
Mayor Peterson said that he looked into the Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful (KNIB) mud volleyball tournament and he doesn’t think the Village would be interested in hosting the event because it would destroy the athletic fields.
Mayor Peterson thanked Mr. Barber for replacing the flag at Village Hall.
Mayor Peterson stated that the Village Board needs to have another special meeting to discuss the Public Works budget soon.
Mayor Peterson advised the Committee that there have been approximately 45 forms turned in so far for the Blackhawk area water connection project.
WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – JODI MAY
None.
STREETS AND WALKS – DAN BAUMGARTNER
Mr. Baumgartner stated that the special events application for “Summerpalooza” to be held on June 8th, July 13th and August 10th in the 100 block of W. Main Street is up for approval at the Village Board meeting. Ms. Diduch talked about the event and the themes for each date. Ms. Diduch added that people can also bring chairs with them because seating will be limited. The Committee was okay with this.
BUILDINGS AND PARKS – ARIANNE HONKAMP
None.
PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER
Mr. Barber advised the Committee that the Village will be holding an auction at the Goldie Floberg building on Saturday, June 8th.
Mr. Barber stated that the Public Works Department replaced two fire hydrants this past week.
Mr. Barber added that KLM Engineering is going to do an inspection of the water tower by Walmart on Wednesday and that they started draining water from the tower today.
Mr. Barber stated that he ordered four barricades that they are going to use for “Summerpalooza”.
Mr. Barber said that he met with Mrs. Bennett today in reference to the Public Works budget and stated that the Public Works Department is staying very busy.
Mr. Baumgartner inquired about the new pool filling procedure and Mr. Barber explained that residents are supposed to call the Village prior to filling their pools so that the Village can read the meter before and after they fill their pools. Mr. Barber said that it would be nice if the Public Works Department had at least 24 hours notice before pools are being filled.
