Illinois Unemployment Remains 3rd Highest as Governor Travels Country

SPRINGFIELD – Illinois residents continue to struggle with the rising cost of groceries and other daily necessities, straining family budgets. Despite the state’s unemployment rate being the third highest in the nation, Gov. JB Pritzker has been traveling across the country to raise his national profile. This has led members of the Illinois Senate Republican Caucus to call for Pritzker to focus on state issues.

They highlight several concerns under Pritzker’s leadership, including nearly a billion-dollar tax increase to fund programs for non-citizens and rising crime rates, with a 60% increase in major crimes in Chicago since 2019 and over 100 shootings during the July 4th weekend.

State Senator Dave Syverson (R-Cherry Valley) expressed frustration, urging the Governor to prioritize improving residents' lives by saying, “Think Illinois.”

Hypocrisy on Display as Democrats Prepare to Converge in Chicago

Illinois Democrat leaders face criticism for changing state election rules to block candidate slating while preparing to nominate Vice President Kamala Harris for president after President Joe Biden exited the race. This spring, Democrats passed legislation preventing candidates from being appointed post-primary election, which Gov. Pritzker signed into law within 48 hours despite initial reservations.

Critics argue this law reduces voter choice and was deemed unconstitutional by a Sangamon County Judge; an appeal is pending with the Illinois Supreme Court. Yet, shortly after Biden’s exit, Gov. Pritzker endorsed slating Harris, raising questions about their commitment to fair electoral processes.

With increasing crime rates, the FBI warns Illinois residents about a rise in “jugging,” where criminals follow and attack individuals after ATM withdrawals. The FBI advises vigilance around ATMs and recommends monitoring surroundings for suspicious activity and keeping money out of sight.
